Since its launch in September 2024, the AI-powered dating app developed by the Tokyo government has facilitated 265 marriages, aimed at addressing Japan’s declining birth rate.

The app, Tokyo Enmusubi, was introduced after discovering that 70% of people interested in marriage were not actively seeking a partner.

To ensure serious engagement, applicants must confirm their single status and pass an online interview.

Out of about 36,000 initial applicants, only 16,000 were approved to use the platform, which has also seen 760 couples enter into serious relationships.

The urgency to boost Japan’s population is underscored by the record low births in 2025, with only 671,236 babies being born, continuing a 10-year decline.

Users like "Skytree," who found a perfect match through the app, appreciate the AI's ability to gauge compatibility in stages, offering reassurance in their dating choices. #
