Link: Zombies, Run! is officially back from the dead

Starting tomorrow, a new eight-part story for Zombies, Run! will be available for download, marking a significant revival. This fitness app originally launched in 2012 and quickly built a community through its unique blend of exercise and engaging storytelling set amid a zombie apocalypse.

Following the acquisition by OliveX, the app struggled, falling into typical post-acquisition challenges, notably ceasing new episodes when most of the original team was laid off over a year ago. However, this narrative took a fortunate turn as Naomi Alderman, the co-creator, reacquired and revived the app.

Alderman has reintroduced much of the original voice talent and characters, steering the game back to its roots. The new episodes are crafted to be accessible to newcomers while still resonating with long-time fans.

The app's resurrection is a rare example in the tech game world, enabled by a clause in Alderman's original contract that allowed the buyback. Alderman funded the buyback with proceeds from her novels and a bank loan.

Under Alderman's renewed leadership, Zombies, Run! aims for sustainability rather than rapid growth. Plans are underway to expand features, including smartwatch support for audio playback.

Alderman emphasizes that Zombies, Run! is more than just a game; it's about community resilience and mutual care—a timely message for today's world. This narrative and functional resurgence highlights its unique position in both the fitness and gaming landscapes. #
