Link: Snap is laying off 16 percent of its staff as it leans into AI
Today, we are announcing a significant restructuring at Snap that will affect approximately 1,000 team members, including the closure of over 300 open roles. These changes are part of our strategy to transition towards profitable growth and improve operational efficiency.
Last fall, I highlighted the need for Snap to evolve into a more agile and efficient entity. In response, we've undergone a thorough evaluation of our priorities and are focusing on areas with the highest long-term value potential.
These adjustments are expected to cut our annual costs by over $500 million by the second half of 2026, marking a major step towards achieving net-income profitability. This is possible partly due to our integration of artificial intelligence, which enhances productivity and speeds up our operations.
For our North America team, please work from home today as impacted U.S. employees will be notified via email within the hour. Employees outside the U.S. will receive guidance from local leadership and HR soon.
We are sincerely grateful to our departing team members for their efforts and contributions to Snap. U.S.-based employees will receive four months of severance, continued healthcare coverage, equity vesting, and career transition support.
To our remaining team members, thank you for your resilience and dedication through these challenging changes. We are committed to navigating this transition with clarity and empathy as we aim to build a more robust and sustainable Snap. #
