Link: OpenAI makes ChatGPT Projects available to all free users, and allows more files to be added to projects; Projects was previously exclusive to paid subscribers (Ian Carlos Campbell/Engadget)
OpenAI has announced that Projects, a feature for organizing ChatGPT conversations by subject, is now available to free users. This feature was previously exclusive to paying subscribers.
Projects offer more than just organizational benefits; they allow users to set custom AI response instructions and restrict data access. OpenAI has also expanded the ability to add files to a project, enhancing its utility.
Now, free users can upload up to five files per project, while Plus and Pro subscribers can upload 25 and 40 files, respectively. Additionally, all users can customize their project's color and icon.
OpenAI has a pattern of gradually offering paid features to all users, like Deep Research and ChatGPT Voice. This strategy encourages free users to consider paid subscriptions.
These Project features are accessible on the web and Android's ChatGPT app. The iOS version is slated to update shortly with the same features.
Such updates demonstrate OpenAI's strategy of making advanced tools more accessible while enticing upgrades through feature limitations. #
