Link: Humanoid ‘Lightning’ robot smashes the half-marathon record

An autonomous robot named “Lightning” completed a 13-mile race in Beijing in just 50 minutes and 26 seconds, setting a new record. This time was significantly faster than last year’s robot record of two hours and 40 minutes.

Developed by the smartphone company Honor, Lightning was designed with long legs and liquid cooling technology to mimic elite human runners.

Lightning not only outpaced 12,000 human competitors but also broke the human world record by almost seven minutes.

This year, 300 robots competed, with 47 teams completing the race; 18 of these were autonomous like Lightning.

The second and third place in the race also went to autonomous Lightning models, showcasing the dominance of this new technology.

Despite a remote-controlled Lightning achieving the fastest time, the autonomous version was declared the official winner due to race rules on different categories. #
