Link: Your PS5 can now transform into a Linux PC
A Linux version is now running on some PlayStation 5 consoles, thanks to developer Andy Nguyen. Nguyen successfully ported Ubuntu to run PC games like GTA V and Spider-Man at impressive frame rates and resolutions.
This modification is temporary, as it doesn’t persist beyond a system reboot. Nugyen's guide for installation is available on GitHub.
The exploit used by Nguyen is currently limited to PS5 consoles with disc drives on older firmware versions. It does not support the latest nor allow for homebrew applications or pirated games.
Additional features of the Linux system on PS5 include custom VRAM usage and working fan controls, though there might be initial issues with the WLAN adapter. All supported resolutions are capped at 60Hz.
Potential future updates from Nguyen could add support for more firmware versions and refresh rates. He also plans to possibly incorporate a shutdown feature that would ease the relaunch of Linux.
If you're experienced with Linux and not concerned about harming your console, Nguyen assures that the modification is safe. Further assistance can be found on his GitHub and Discord server. #
