Link: TikTok USA is broken
TikTok faced significant disruptions over the weekend following a change in the ownership of its US operations. Issues began early Sunday, with persistent errors affecting many users.
Users across the US reported problems such as indefinite "under review" statuses when uploading videos. Even 12 hours later, some videos failed to publish, especially in the US.
Difficulties included login problems, publishing failures, non-personalized content feeds, and glitches in loading comments and other features. This affected the app's functionality broadly, impacting even the CapCut video editor.
Many speculated that the problems were linked to the politically sensitive timing of the acquisition by an Oracle-led consortium, coinciding with anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis. The shift seemed to influence the type and visibility of content on the platform.
The new US owners have introduced changes to TikTok's terms of service, such as the collection of more precise user data and alterations to content moderation practices. This has stoked fears of potential censorship under the new management.
We have reached out to TikTok for comments on these ongoing issues but have yet to receive a response. #
