Link: These smart glasses use AI to help low-vision users
Envision has collaborated with Solos to introduce the Ally Solos Glasses, a new smart eyewear designed for the blind and low-vision community. Priced at a special launch rate of $399, these glasses offer text reading, environmental description, and web search capabilities.
The glasses integrate Envision's "Ally" AI assistant, which utilizes multiple AI models from tech giants like Meta and Google, replacing the GPT-4o used in Solos' earlier models. Users control features through an app connected via Bluetooth.
Ally Solos Glasses come in two sizes and three colors, and are rated IP67 for dust and water resistance. They are USB-C chargeable, boasting up to 16 hours of active use on a single charge.
Pre-orders for the glasses are expected to ship by October 2025. This new model builds on the technology previously offered in other smart glasses like Google Glass and Ray-Ban's Meta glasses.
While the Ally Solos Glasses are set to retail for $699 post-launch, their introduction at $399 offers a substantial initial savings. The effectiveness and market acceptance of these glasses compared to cheaper alternatives remain to be seen.
