Realistic images of several celebrities, including singers Katy Perry and Rihanna—two Met Gala regulars—on this year’s carpet appearing to fit the evening’s floral theme circulated on social media. But neither star was there. Rihanna had the flu, while Perry also said she couldn’t make it this year. Even Perry’s mom was duped by the image: The singer shared a screenshot from a text exchange with her mom who complimented her gown. Perry responded: “The AI got you too, BEWARE!” While such goofs are harmless, the spread of these images is a reminder of how advances in tech can easily fool casual viewers. On a cursory glance, the images seemed very plausible. #
