Link: Tesla’s graphics are about to get Unreal
Tesla might soon enhance its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving visualizations using Epic Games' Unreal Engine. This information comes from a notable Tesla hacker who discovered clues in Tesla’s latest firmware.
Unreal Engine is widely recognized for powering video games, yet it's increasingly popular among automakers for its robust capabilities. Tesla currently employs the Godot engine for these visualizations.
If Tesla adopts Unreal Engine, it will align with several other automakers, such as Rivian, Ford, GMC, Volvo, and Lotus, who have already embraced this technology. This shift was signaled by findings in a 2025.20 firmware exclusive to Tesla Model S and Model X with AMD chips.
Neither Tesla nor Epic Games has commented on these findings. Previously, the relationship between the two companies became more visible when Tesla’s Cybertruck was featured in the popular game, Fortnite.
The transition to Unreal Engine could signify a major improvement in the visual aspects of Tesla’s driving technologies. This enhancement could potentially provide a more immersive and informative user experience for Tesla drivers.
