Link: Tesla is finally doing unsupervised robotaxi rides

Tesla has initiated unsupervised robotaxi trials in Austin, Texas, a significant advancement highlighted in a recent video shared on X, then reposted by Elon Musk.

Previously, Tesla's robotaxis in Austin and San Francisco operated with safety monitors due to a stringent approach to safety, according to Musk; these monitors had access to an emergency kill switch.

The robotaxi services are not yet fully available to the public and currently rely on customer waitlists, a strategy similar to the one Waymo used during its initial rollout.

Waymo, however, has already achieved over 100 million miles with fully driverless cars, contrasting with Tesla's ongoing need for safety monitors in its supposedly autonomous vehicles.

Despite Tesla's claims of approaching full autonomy, supported by Musk's ambitious predictions, their actual road performance includes multiple incidents, with reports of about eight crashes in just five months.

While Tesla progresses with its robotaxi fleet under scrutiny, Waymo advances with over 14 million paid rides in 2025 alone and plans for significant expansion, highlighting the competitive landscape in the autonomous vehicle market.#
