Link: Tesla hits Musk’s threshold for ‘safe unsupervised’ driving

Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system has reached over 10 billion miles, crossing the threshold Elon Musk previously set for safe unsupervised self-driving. Despite this milestone, Tesla vehicles still require attentive human supervision, remaining at Level 2 automation.

Elon Musk stated earlier that reaching 10 billion miles would enable the transition to unsupervised driving.

However, Tesla has not yet transitioned to unsupervised driving, and the responsibility in case of a crash remains with the vehicle owner, not Tesla, under current terms of service.

Tesla argues on its website that its supervised FSD system is safer than human driving, claiming a significant difference in miles driven before a major collision compared to average US drivers.

Yet, questions about the safety and reliability of Tesla's autonomous driving features persist among experts who criticize the company's safety data methodology.

Meanwhile, Tesla is expanding its robotaxi fleet with unsupervised units in cities like Dallas and Austin, pushing forward with its autonomous driving technology.

This expansion continues to fuel debate and speculation about when or if Tesla car owners will ever get access to fully unsupervised FSD capabilities.
