Link: Runway is going to let people generate video games with AI
Runway, a startup valued at $3 billion, is expanding its generative AI technology from Hollywood to the gaming industry. CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela announced an upcoming interactive gaming experience available to the public next week.
Initially, the product will feature a basic chat interface for text and image creation. However, Valenzuela revealed plans to introduce generated video games later in the year.
Runway is actively discussing collaborations with gaming companies to integrate their AI technology and access industry datasets for AI training.
Valenzuela reflected that the gaming sector’s initial hesitation towards AI mirrors Hollywood’s early skepticism. Yet, just like in film, AI adoption in game development is steadily growing.
He emphasized AI’s potential to expedite content creation, mentioning that similar technology has already been employed in Amazon's show, "House of David." Valenzuela claimed that AI had helped some studios cut down production time by 40%.
On Valenzuela's independence from bigger tech firms, he remarked, "I think we have more interesting intellectual challenges being independent." This came during discussions about possible acquisition by Zuckerberg’s company.
