Link: Roku hits a major milestone with 100 million users
Roku has become a dominant force in streaming, with over half of US broadband households using its devices. The company claims a significant milestone with more than 100 million households using Roku for streaming as of April 2026.
Originally a part of Netflix, Roku launched as a standalone company in 2008. It emerged during the advent of streaming services, which now heavily influence global entertainment consumption.
Roku not only offers hardware options like streaming sticks and Roku TVs but has also developed its streaming services. These include the budget-friendly Howdy platform and the Roku Channel, which ranks as the sixth most-watched streaming platform in the US.
The adoption of Roku reflects a broader trend of consumers moving away from traditional cable. Many, myself included, have eschewed cable for streaming, with Roku being a popular choice for its ease of use and comprehensive content offering.
Roku's operating system became the most popular streaming OS in the US by late last year, utilized in 28 percent of households. This underscores Roku’s strong position in the market amidst intense competition.
By consistently innovating and expanding its service and content options, Roku continues to solidify its leadership in the streaming industry.
