Link: RAMageddon has come for Microsoft’s Surface Pro and Surface Laptop
Microsoft has increased the prices of its Surface devices, with the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 each seeing a $500 rise. This adjustment escalates the cost from their previous $999 starting price up to $1,499.
The price hike is due to a global RAM shortage affecting production costs and market prices. Similarly, the Surface Pro now starts at $1,049, up from $799, and the Surface Laptop begins at $1,199, having initially been $899.
Last year, Microsoft discontinued selling the cheaper versions of these models to promote new, slightly less expensive devices. Yet even these newer versions have been subjected to the recent price increases.
The 15-inch Surface Laptop now starts at $1,599, a $300 increase from its former price in 2024. A fully equipped model of this laptop has seen its price surge to $3,649.
This pricing adjustment puts Microsoft in a challenging position relative to Apple, particularly with Apple's competitively priced $599 MacBook Neo. Reports suggest that Microsoft might introduce new, possibly pricier, Surface models soon.
