Link: OpenAI’s ChatGPT translator challenges Google Translate

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Translate, a web-based translation tool supporting over 50 languages. It is designed to compete directly with Google Translate.

Both services display a similar layout with two text boxes for input and translation results, and dropdowns for selecting languages. However, Google Translate also supports translating images, documents, and websites.

While ChatGPT Translate mentions capabilities for translating text, images, and voice, its image translation is not yet available. The desktop version is limited to text-only translations, but mobile users can also use voice.

The service offers unique translation style options like making a text more business formal. This feature extends OpenAI's philosophy of adaptable AI applications.

ChatGPT, the regular chatbot by OpenAI, has also had translation features, but ChatGPT Translate is its standalone iteration.

No mobile app for ChatGPT Translate is available yet, keeping it web-only, unlike Google Translate which has both web and app versions. OpenAI has yet to announce further details or confirm the underlying AI model. #
