Link: Nvidia’s GeForce Now is upgrading to RTX 5080 GPUs and opening a floodgate of new games
Nvidia's GeForce Now will soon feature Blackwell GPUs, effectively offering RTX 5080 performance in the cloud for a $20 monthly fee. Alongside this boost, the service will increase its library and add new features like Install-to-Play, allowing for immediate game installations directly through Steam.
Install-to-Play does involve some limitations, with games requiring downloads unless extra payment is made for persistent storage. The additional cost ranges from $3 to $8 monthly, providing up to 1TB of space.
Nvidia also introduces high-resolution streaming capabilities, accommodating up to 5K resolution at 120fps, and up to 360fps at 1080p. An optional Cinematic Quality Streaming mode aims to enhance visual clarity and detail.
Interestingly, GeForce Now is also being integrated into Discord, enabling instant game trials without a separate login, starting with a partnership featuring Fortnite. This new functionality debuts at Gamescom, offering a seamless experience directly from Discord servers.
However, while GeForce Now promises impressive technical enhancements, actual game availability and latency experiences may vary. Nvidia also states that the GFN Ultimate tier, which includes these upgrades, will maintain its current price for the foreseeable future.
Despite these advancements, certain high-profile publishers like Sony and Rockstar remain absent from the service. This exclusion limits the service's ability to fully replicate a traditional console gaming experience. #
