Link: Lenovo’s rollable laptop is a concept no more — launching this year for $3,500
Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 was a standout at CES, captivating me instantly with its rollable OLED display and innovative mechanics. The moment I pressed a button and watched the display unroll, I couldn't help but smile.
The ThinkBook is quite the spectacle with a starting price of $3,499, set to launch in Q1 2025. Despite its high cost and borderline absurdity, its uniqueness for tasks like managing large spreadsheets is thrilling.
In its standard form, it appears as a conventional 14-inch laptop but transforms dramatically when activated. A dedicated key or a gesture towards the webcam extends the display to an impressive 16.7 inches.
The rollable screen extends and retracts in about 10 seconds, drawing attention with its audible motors. The extended screen format effectively doubles its viewable area, allowing two full windows to stack vertically.
Designed with durability in mind, Lenovo claims the ThinkBook Plus can handle tens of thousands of rolls and lid movements. It utilizes a 66Wh battery typical for its size, ensuring decent battery life despite the extra mechanics.
The animation during screen movement is a charming touch, although it’s possible to turn it off for a simpler visual experience. The flexibility of the OLED panel showcases minor creases during use, reminiscent of those seen in foldable smartphones. #
