Link: Instagram’s Map is here, and this is how you can turn your location off
The recent launch of Instagram Map has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among users. Criticism varies from accusations of mimicking Snapchat's Snap Maps to concerns over severe privacy risks, including potential dangers to domestic violence survivors.
Meta has responded by clarifying that Instagram Maps is an opt-in feature, designed for sharing selected locations or exploring posts geotagged by friends and creators.
To disable location sharing on Instagram Maps, users should navigate through Messages and Map settings within the app to select "no one" under location access options.
Meta assures users that if they have not permitted Instagram to access their location data, the map feature remains inactive and inaccessible.
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri emphasizes that the map shows locations related to users' past activities, not their real-time whereabouts.
Mosseri also announced that Instagram is planning to roll out design improvements shortly to address user concerns and enhance clarity regarding location sharing.
