Link: Garmin’s Fenix 8 Pro series finally lets you leave your phone at home — sort of

Garmin has launched its Fenix 8 Pro series, notable for incorporating cellular and satellite connectivity, allowing users to stay connected without a smartphone.

The series also introduces a MicroLED display option, achieving impressive brightness levels, but with a steep starting price of $1,199.99 and $1,999.99 for the MicroLED model.

While the new connectivity features permit sending voice messages and location data, they're limited to connections through LTE-M networks and require using Garmin's specific Messenger app.

Both satellite and cellular connections will necessitate a subscription, starting at $7.99 per month, although Garmin offers initial incentives like waived activation fees and a 30-day trial.

On the hardware front, the watches are available in two sizes and boast considerable battery life, although the advanced MicroLED version offers significantly less than its OLED counterparts.

This move by Garmin, leveraging its InReach technology, bridges a gap with competitors, enhancing its appeal among athletes and outdoors enthusiasts despite some limitations in network reach and device interoperability. #
