Link: ChatGPT’s mobile app has generated $2B to date, earns $2.91 per install
ChatGPT's mobile app has generated a remarkable $2 billion in global consumer spending since its launch in May 2023. This amount is about 30 times higher than the combined lifetime spending of its competitors like Claude, Copilot, and Grok.
Within this year alone, the app has earned $1.35 billion, marking a 673% increase compared to the same period last year. Currently, it averages nearly $193 million in revenue per month.
Comparatively, Grok, ChatGPT's closest competitor, has only amassed about $25.6 million this year. Grok's average monthly spending is a mere 1.9% of what ChatGPT achieves.
ChatGPT's dominance is further highlighted by its per-download revenue, which in the U.S. reaches up to $10, significantly outpacing its competitors. The app's global installations have soared to 690 million, dwarfing Grok's 39.5 million downloads.
Despite Grok launching later and initially lacking standalone mobile apps, it has not significantly challenged ChatGPT's market lead. As of 2025, Grok is accessible through iOS and has been on Google Play since March.
The vast difference in performance metrics underlines ChatGPT's leading position in the mobile AI market, demonstrating a significant gap that competitors need to bridge. This data not only reflects revenue but also indicates substantial consumer preference and market penetration. #
