Link: BMW’s iX3 is a ‘new class’ of EV that packs a lot of range and computing power
BMW has unveiled its first Neue Klasse electric vehicle, the iX3, marking a significant evolution with its promising new technology. The vehicle debuted at the Munich auto show and is a symbol of the brand's shift towards a software-centric approach in automotive design.
The iX3 is built on an 800-volt architecture allowing up to 400kW charging speeds, potentially adding 230 miles of range in just 10 minutes. It also introduces BMW's Gen6 cylindrical battery cells, enhancing the range, charging speed, and energy density significantly.
BMW's 'Heart of Joy' computer, part of the iX3, streamlines various vehicle control functions, potentially boosting the driving experience. The vehicle also integrates high-tech digital features set to improve through over-the-air updates.
The first model, the iX3 50 xDrive, boasts 463 horsepower and will reach U.S. dealers by mid-2026. It promises an EPA-estimated range of over 400 miles and starts at $60,000.
Physically, the iX3 sports a redesigned, less dominant kidney grille and measures similarly to the i4 but differs slightly in dimensions. The modern aesthetic aligns with its more sophisticated technological blueprint.
This launch doesn't just enhance BMW’s product lineup but underlines its ongoing rivalry with Tesla and the new wave of tech-savvy Chinese EV makers. With each innovation, BMW reinforces its claim as a leader in delivering high-performance, cutting-edge electric vehicles.
