Link: Amazon is reportedly training humanoid robots to deliver packages
Amazon is developing humanoid robots potentially revolutionizing package delivery. These robots will be tested to operate autonomously, being transported by Rivian electric vans.
A new facility resembling a coffee shop-sized "humanoid park" is nearly complete in San Francisco for training these robots. It includes an obstacle course with a Rivian van to simulate real-world conditions.
These efforts align with Amazon's launch of a new AI team geared towards empowering robots to understand and act on natural language commands. This initiative aims to make warehouse robots more adaptive and skilled.
These developments build on Amazon's use of robotics in logistics, such as the trial with Agility Robotics' humanoid "Digit." The new humanoid robots tested could include a $16,000 model from Unitree.
Amazon, which employs hundreds of thousands in delivery roles and owns the robotaxi company Zoox, seems committed to automating the journey from warehouse to doorstep. This project might ultimately lead to a fully automated delivery system.
